Your First Visit
When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment you will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form. The acupuncture intake form asks questions about your primary focus for treatment, as well as past illnesses, and symptoms of every major system of the body. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine sees all symptoms and systems of the body as interconnected and interrelated.
After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition in depth, and your Acupuncturist will examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. If appropriate, specific orthopedic exams will be performed, and labwork may also be evaluated. This comprehensive intake process is essential in order for you receive the most professional and effective treatment possible.
The acupuncture points chosen will depend on your condition, but you can expect anywhere from 10-30 needles. Once the needles are inserted, I will leave you to lie comfortably for 15-30 minutes with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.
